Dental Implants Northbrook Illinois
Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts that are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition to creating a foundation for the teeth, implants can help preserve natural facial structure by preventing the bone deterioration that occurs as a result of missing teeth.
Dental implants can dramatically inhance the day to day lives of people who have suffered from dental disease and tooth loss. With dental implants, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh, and enjoy life.
We commonly treat patients who are in need of one or a combination of the following procedures:
- Single Implant – Posterior healing Cap
- Single Implant – Anterior healing Cap
- Fixed Hybrid Dentures
- Implant Restorations
- Dentures
- Fixed Bridges

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is a Candidate?
Anyone who is currently missing one or more teeth due to injury, disease or tooth decay may be a candidate for dental implants. The determining factor is the amount of available bone. Dr. John Vickery, D.D.S., P.C will evaluate whether dental implants are a viable solution for you and your particular needs.
What are the advantages of dental implants over dentures or a dental bridge?
1) Improved appearance: When you lose the entire tooth – crown and root – shrinkage of the jawbone may cause your face to look older. Dental implants can stop this process. A traditional denture or dental bridge doesn’t offer the same.
2) Preserve natural teeth: With traditional dental bridges, teeth adjacent to missing teeth are normally ground down to be used as anchors for a dental bridge. Dental implants eliminate the need to modify your existing and healthy teeth.
3) Permanent solution: In most cases dental implants last the lifetime of the patient. Additionally, there are no loose parts to worry about losing, and the dental implant is stable and comfortable. Best yet, there is no adjustment needed after placement.

Dental Implant Treatments
At Northbrook Periodontics & Implants we offer dental implants for a number of different reasons. Depending on your particular needs, we will customize a solution that meets your overall goals. Once a completed diagnosis, we will develop a treatment plan appropriate for your specific case. This treatment plan and all phases of it will be communicated and coordinated with your general dentist. The following are different dental implant procedures offered by Dr. John Vickery, D.D.S., P.C.
Single Tooth Replacement
When a single tooth is missing, an implant is an excellent option for tooth replacement. Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth. Traditional replacements include bridges and removable appliances. Bridges involve the crowning of adjacent teeth. Dental implants result in permanently fixed teeth that don’t sacrifice or distrupt neighboring teeth.
Multiple Tooth Replacement
Dental implants can look and feel like your own teeth. When several teeth are missing, implants are an excellent option.
The traditional option of bridges involves the crowning of adjacent teeth. Dental implants don’t sacrifice neighboring teeth. They can also eliminate the need for removable partial dentures. Fixed bridges can be anchored to dental implants. They are stable and restore both natural function and appearance.
Full Arch
When all teeth are missing or in such condition that they need to be replaced, a fixed bridge anchored to dental implants is the best permanent solution. Before dental implants, there were no fixed solution available for people who lost all their teeth. Today, it is possible to replace a full jaw with dental implants and a fixed bridge that results in a permanent, stable and highly esthetic solution.
