Bone Grafting
Bone Grafting
Your jawbone plays a key role in supporting your teeth and gums. Unfortunately, in cases of severe periodontal infection, may actually begin to dissolve and be reabsorbed by your body. This bone loss can eventually lead to the loss of your teeth. The first step of treatment is to remove the periodontal disease, which halts the bone loss. Then we repair the damage that has occurred. In many cases, various bone grafting techniques can be used to re-grow some of the jawbone that was lost.
Procedure: Dr Vickery will make a small incision into your gum to gain access to your jaw bone. He then removes the periodontal disease, repairs the bone damage and fills in the damaged area with bone grafting material. The grafting material is made of processed bone minerals around which your body will naturally deposit new bone cells which leads to bone regeneration.
Uses for Bone Grafts
The following are common treatment goals that may require bone grafts:
- Saving Teeth from sever periodontal disease. During advanced stages of periodontal disease teeth can become loose and risk being lost. By treating the infection and regenerating bone by grafting, we can increase your bone support and prevent further tooth lose.
- Tooth Extractions don’t have to be final. should you have a tooth removed bone grafting material can be placed into the remainging tooth socket so that if you decide to have a dental implate later you will have the structure needed.
- Dental Implants is the optimal tooth replacement system as they are permanent solutions to missing teeth. Bone Grafting can ensure that you have enough regenerated bone to be used for the implant procedure.
